Your Guide To Roast Turkey
Turkey takes a starring role in the traditional Christmas roast, but the wide array of birds and joints available can sometimes make it difficult to choose the right one. Happily, our knowledgeable butchers have put together a handy guide to help you find all the turkey you need, from plump whole birds and rolled boned joints to crowns, cushions, drumsticks and more.
Whole Turkeys
For the classic Christmas dinner, it’s got to be a whole turkey. Free-range or barn-reared, Bronze or White, Greendale offers whole turkeys up to 10kg in weight, which will feed 17 hungry diners. With giblets supplied (we think they make the tastiest gravy), a whole bird will satisfy hearty appetites – and with any luck, there’ll be just enough leftover meat for a delicious Boxing Day curry!
Turkey Crown
A turkey crown is a whole turkey with the legs and wing tips removed, leaving a joint of succulent, on-the- bone white breast meat. A crown will need a shorter cooking time than a whole turkey, and it’s much easier to carve, too. We’d recommend a turkey crown for breast-meat lovers, smaller families, those who prefer not to have to deal with leftovers and anyone with a smaller oven (sounds silly, but it’s always worth checking you’ll actually be able to fit your turkey in the cooker before you buy!)
Easy to carve turkey
Even the most seasoned cook can sometimes feel the pressure at Christmas - why not make life simple for yourself, and choose one of our easy-carve boneless joints? Available with a choice of white or dark meat, with or without stuffing, these joints are comparatively quick to cook, a doddle to carve and perfect for anyone who’d rather be mingling than stuck in the kitchen!
