Brilliant British Fish

Meet Chloe North, Manager of the Western Fish Producers' Organisation (WFPO). The Greendale fishing fleet works with the WFPO to tackle important issues in the fishing industry, helping to build a brighter, more sustainable future for this sector. We caught up with Chloe to discuss why it's important to buy British fish.

“As Manager of the Western Fish Producers Organisation (WFPO), I work with Greendale’s fishing fleet to tackle important issues in the UK fishing industry. In collaboration with a cooperative of companies based in Brixham, Devon, we are at the forefront of delivering a sustainable and profitable future for the UK seafood sector. From carrying out scientific trials on fishing gear - with the joint purpose of reducing contact with the seabed while also lowering vessels’ carbon emissions - to establishing a Fishing Apprenticeship Scheme at South Devon College, we are working together to ensure the British fishing fleet has a bright future.

Greendale Farm Shop has such an exciting array of fish from the South West, many of them landed at Brixham. Hugely important to the local fishing community, this thriving harbour is known for its prime fish, such as Dover sole, turbot, scallops and monkfish, all of which can be found on the wet fish counter at Greendale Farm Shop. By buying locally-landed fish like these, Greendale customers are not only supporting their local fishing community, but also choosing a healthy, low-carbon footprint (and delicious) option."
