Greendale offers a good variety of different beef steaks, including Rib-Eye, Flat Iron, Sirloin and Rump, so you can stock up on supplies for your next barbecue.
Here are a few tips for successful barbecued steak:

  1. As ever, it’s important to get charcoal up to the right temperature before cooking (see our handy guide, Getting the Most from a Charcoal Barbecue, for more details). It’s a good idea to leave a small area of the grate free from hot charcoal, as this cooler part of the grill will allow you greater control over the cooking speed of your steaks.
  2. Allow the steak to come to room temperature before barbecuing, and allow it to rest after it has been cooked; these two steps will help to prevent the meat becoming too dry.
  3. Rub both sides of the steak lightly with sunflower or vegetable oil, and season well with sea salt before you place it on the grill.
  4. Cooking times will vary, depending on the size and thickness of your steak. As a rough guide, a 1.5cm thick steak will need 1.5-2 minutes on each side for rare; 2-3 minutes on each side for medium-rare; and 4 minutes on each side for well done. Remember to leave it to rest before serving.
