Cooked Locally Caught Hen Crab (500g)

Please note that all weights stated for our crab are live weights before cooking. Some shells may contain residue cooking water inside therefore please drain off before eating. The live weights are not an indication of the amount of crab meat inside. 

Our crabs are cooked and delivered whole, so we are unable to see the quantity of the brown crab meat inside (this varies seasonally). Therefore brown picked crab meat is sold seperately if required.

Our fishing vessels work out of Exmouth, Brixham and Newlyn, and operate in accordance with the Seafood Responsible Fishing Scheme. They keep us well topped up most days with a selection of fresh fish and shellfish, and a catch can often be on its way to the Greendale farm shop within hours of leaving the sea. If we can’t catch it ourselves, we source only from trusted suppliers with standards as high as our own. The fish available may vary, depending on the season, but a delicious variety is always to be found on our fish counter. From whole fish to fillets, live lobsters to shrimp, our wide selection is sold in a choice of portion sizes and prepared for your convenience by our skilled fishmongers.

Hen crabs may be smaller than the male (cock) crabs, but what they lack in size they make up for in quality and flavour. The hen crabs have smaller claws, so have less white meat, but the brown meat they contain is sweet and makes for superb eating.
